Donald Trump got even more unhinged in New Hampshire yesterday, ranting about our country’s lack of missile defense, praising the dictators he knows as “very street smart,” and proposing to violate the Constitution by blocking immigrants who “don’t like our religion.”
“Trump’s rallies sound more like a Truth Social comment section than a serious plan to keep Americans safe at home and abroad. At best, his rhetoric is ignorant to the facts, and at worst he’s purposefully spewing bigoted and hateful rhetoric to stoke fear in voters and appeal to their worst impulses. At a time when the world needs stable, clear-eyed American leadership on the global stage, Trump disqualifies himself from the role with each rally, speech, interview, or chaotic social media post,” said American Bridge 21st Century Presidential Campaigns Communications Director Brandon Weathersby.
Learn more about Donald Trump’s know-nothing national security proposal vision:
- Trump claimed, “We have to have a shield. I want to build a shield around our country.”
- The United States has had continuous ballistic missile defenses since the 1940s, a Missile Defense Agency, and Congress has appropriated over $200 billion on ballistic missile defense.
- During his New Hampshire rally, Trump did not denounce dictators and autocratic regimes. Instead, he called them “very street smart”
- Trump has a very long record of embracing autocratic leaders and dictators including Vladimir Putin, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Kim Jong Un.
- Trump expanded on his plans to block people from entering the country based on “strong ideological screening,” going even further to undermine the Constitution and First Amendment by vowing to block immigrants who “don’t like our religion.”
- In his first month in office, Trump signed an executive order banning entry from seven majority-Muslim countries. The executive order included a provision prioritizing refugee claims made by “religious minorities” of Muslim-majority countries.
- In her dissent as part of a 5-4 vote on Trump’s executive orders, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Trump’s policy was still the Muslim ban Trump talked about on the campaign trail, but “now masquerades behind a façade of national-security concerns.”
