Donald Trump Sticks With Handpicked NC Gov. Candidate Mark Robinson

Sep 26, 2024

It’s been a week since CNN reported that one of Donald Trump’s closest allies, North Carolina GOP gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson, posted on a pornography forum that he had a history of “peeping” on women in locker rooms, supported modern slavery, and called himself a “black NAZI.”

Today, when asked directly if he’ll pull his endorsement of his handpicked gubernatorial candidate, Trump feigned ignorance and told reporters, “I don’t know the situation,” despite traveling to North Carolina twice for public appearances in the last week.

Trump endorsed Robinson early in the race for governor and called the disgraced candidate an “outstanding person” and a “good man” — and even “Dr. Martin Luther King on steroids.

“There is no way Donald Trump isn’t aware of one of the most shocking, creepy, and weird scandals of this election cycle in a state he desperately needs to win in November. The only interpretation of his comments today is that he is standing beside his handpicked candidate despite his distributing and disgusting online actions,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “For us at American Bridge, Trump rewarding Robinson’s racist, sexist, antisemitic, and creepy behavior doesn’t come as a surprise. Whether it’s childless-adult obsessed weirdos like JD Vance, online creeps like Mark Robinson, or looney conspiracy theorists like Laura Loomer, Trump will always support and align himself with the most extreme elements of the Republican Party.”

Donald Trump has had nothing but praise for Mark Robinson:

  • Donald Trump patted Mark Robinson on the back, saying, “He’s got to win. Got to win. He’s a good man.”
  • Donald Trump said that Mark Robinson is “Dr. Martin Luther King on steroids.”
  • Donald Trump said about Mark Robinson, “I want to thank a very good man and he’s in there fighting, he’s fighting. And we know he’s a fighter, the next governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson.
  • Donald Trump told donors to “cherish Mark” Robinson and write him checks: “It’s like a fine wine because that’s what you have, that’s what you have a fine wine. He’s an outstanding person.”
  • Donald Trump said, “Mark Robinson, he’s out there. He’s fighting. He’s fighting. He’s a great one.”
