Editorial Board writes that Johnson is Wisconsin’s most “irresponsible representative” since Joseph McCarthy, and “not fit to be your senator”
In a new scathing opinion piece that echoes criticism from Wisconsin medical providers, who have repeatedly asked Ron Johnson to stop spreading anti-vaccine misinformation, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board today writes that Johnson’s “anti-science crusade” makes him “the most irresponsible representative of Wisconsin citizens since the infamous Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy in the 1950s.”
The editorial concludes with a powerful message to Wisconsin voters: “Johnson continues to put his own interests ahead of yours. He continues to put himself first and democracy second. And he continues to show why he is not fit to be your senator.”
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Editorial Board: Ron Johnson’s anti-science crusade sets back the drive to vaccinate more people in Wisconsin
By Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board | June 30, 2021
Key Points:
- “[I]nstead of encouraging more people to get vaccinated so we can be rid of this plague once and for all, Johnson has chosen to use his taxpayer-financed megaphone to draw attention to a vanishingly small number of people who believe they suffered a serious side effect.”
- “He is the most irresponsible representative of Wisconsin citizens since the infamous Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy in the 1950s.”
- “With dangerous variants of the virus now circulating in Wisconsin, discouraging vaccination is reckless.”
- “But Johnson’s antagonistic relationship with science is nothing new.”
- “When it counted most, as Trump lied about the election, Johnson put his own political interests ahead of our democracy.”
- “Johnson continues to put his own interests ahead of yours. He continues to put himself first and democracy second. And he continues to show why he is not fit to be your senator.”
