Most Extreme Slate of Down-Ballot Candidates In America Lose Statewide Races in North Carolina

Nov 06, 2024

It often seemed that the North Carolina GOP statewide candidates weren’t just running against Democrats, but against each other for who could be the most extreme.

Whether it was gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson saying there was “no compromise on abortion,” attorney general nominee Dan Bishop continuing to say the 2020 election was stolen, or state superintendent candidate Michele Morrow calling for the public executions of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, there was no shortage jaw-droppingly new lows on the North Carolina ballot this year.

In response, American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman released the following statement:

“North Carolina Republicans nominated a uniquely bad slate of candidates who proved to be near and dear to the MAGA cult but could not win with general election voters due to their overt extremism. Mark Robinson, Dan Bishop, and Michele Morrow will go down as one of the most damning slates of candidates to ever appear on a ballot together. Their extremism cost them their elections and negatively impacted other races on the ticket. We can’t wait to see what they do for their second act as we’ll be there to hold them accountable should they choose to run for office ever again.”
