Today, Congressman Brian Mast declined to endorse Gov. Rick Scott’s bid for U.S. Senate. In response to a direct question from the TCPalm’s Ali Schmitz, Mast refused to endorse his party’s nominee and instead said, “I’m not going to support anybody who doesn’t support our water.”
Mast’s snub is yet another blow to Scott’s effort to campaign along the Treasure Coast, a vote-rich moderate-to-conservative area that dramatically withheld support from Scott in the Republican primary in August amidst a toxic algae crisis that has devastated local businesses and families.
“Not even members of Rick Scott’s own party are buying his political spin on Florida’s toxic algae crisis,” said American Bridge spokesperson Joshua Karp. “For months Rick Scott has been ducking responsibility and pointing fingers, but it’s clear the communities hit hardest by this governor’s indifference know exactly who is to blame.”
