Last night, 2024 presidential hopeful Gov. Kristi Noem promised to “immediately call for a special session” to ban abortion in South Dakota following the leaked report that the Supreme Court’s Republican appointees have voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, carrying out the next step in the Republicans’ years-long effort to end the right to abortion.
Noem: “I Will Immediately Call For A Special Session” To Ban Abortion
As governor, Noem has already sought to pass a Texas-style abortion ban — an unpopular, undemocratic, and dangerous law that would ban abortion before most people know they are pregnant and includes zero exceptions for rape or incest. If Noem is to get her wish, extremists will be able to pursue vigilante justice against medical professionals who carry out their duty and perform abortions.
In South Dakota, abortion services would immediately become illegal if Roe is overturned.
