According to a new report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia GOP U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker denied the devastating impact of climate change last week, falsely telling donors at a closed-door fundraiser in his home state of Texas last week that the United States has “some of the cleanest climate in the world.”
Walker was “echoing a line pushed by former President Donald Trump, his political patron, that the U.S. need not worry about pollution.”
And it’s a claim that’s been debunked numerous times. In reality, the United States is outside the top ten of the cleanest countries in the world, and thanks to the previous administration, air quality could be much worse.
Walker has a troubled history with science, and was recently caught questioning the theory of evolution, asking “why are there still apes?” He’s previously faced criticism for promoting a false COVID “spray” treatment, defended anti-vaccine advocates’ use of the swastika symbol, and refused to say if he’s been vaccinated against COVID.
