With about fifty days until the midterm elections, American Bridge Co-Chairs Cecile Richards and Secretary Tom Perez joined MSNBC on Sunday to discuss the current political landscape.
On the Sunday Show, Cecile Richards joined Jonathan Capehart and spoke about the role abortion will play in November. On American Voices with Alicia Menendez former DNC Chair and Labor Secretary Tom Perez talked about President Biden’s economic and legislative accomplishments as well as recent polling that show strong Democratic momentum in this final stretch before this election.
“Democrats have gotten so much done – whether it’s prescription drugs, whether it’s infrastructure, whether it’s the Inflation Reduction Act, all of these things, they’re getting things done that are changing and improving people’s lives,” said American Bridge 21st Century Co-Chair Sec. Tom Perez. “And then you also have extreme candidates on the right, whether it’s Pennsylvania , whether it’s Arizona , whether it’s Wisconsin in these Senate races. And so I think it’s remarkable that you see the generic poll and Republicans and Democrats are even right now. I didn’t expect to see that a few months back. And so we’ve got a lot more work to do. Donald Trump continues to do us favors every day because he reminds us day in and day out, as your excellent journalism has shown, why people threw him out of office in 2020.”
“This is about freedom. We’re seeing that everywhere. When you see not only that Republicans are trying to restrict your ability to make decisions about your own pregnancy, that crosses party lines – that crosses every line,” said American Bridge 21st Century Co-Chair Cecile Richards. “Now, we see, of course , they are trying to keep women from leaving a state, literally not being able to travel in this country. Then, of course, we’re seeing the stories where they are using prosecutors to investigate people’s search history online. This is all anti-freedom. This is all about government control – people don’t like it.”
