Republican Congressman John James (MI-10) has backed the GOP’s budget resolution, a measure that could result in millions of Americans losing access to health care and groceries. This decision comes at the expense of critical support for working families, all to give a massive tax break to billionaires.
“132,500 living, breathing people relied on John James to step up and protect their health insurance. He chose not to. The billionaires may appreciate their tax cuts, but voters will not forget this betrayal,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
The budget resolution could massively cut Medicaid up to $880 billion and SNAP up to $230 billion. Michiganders who depend on Medicaid and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 132,500 (21%) of James’ constituents in Michigan’s 10th District are covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and nearly 44,000 people in the district have used SNAP.
Before voting to slash Medicaid, John James previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
