Last night news broke that Congressman Ralph Abraham broke a campaign pledge to Louisiana voters to donate his entire congressional salary to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Veterans Independence Fund. Abraham, who was caught in another lie last week when he falsely told a radio station he was not campaigning during the shutdown, admitted to the Advocate that he had not donated his congressional salary for the last few years, as he had promised.
Depending on how many years he was breaking his promise to donate his salary, Abraham owes the Veterans Independence Fund and St. Jude’s Hospital anywhere between $348,000 and $696,000 according to calculations by Bayou Brief.
“Lyin’ Ralph Abraham became a Congressman based off his promise to donate ‘every penny’ of his congressional salary to charity, and last night he admitted he broke that promise,” said American Bridge spokesperson Zach Hudson. “Unless Ralph Abraham’s position is that a hospital dedicated to treating children with cancer no longer needs the money, he need to donate the hundreds of thousands of dollars he promised them.”
If Abraham wishes to stop lying and keep his promise to his constituents, he can make a donation to St. Jude’s here. They accept checks, credit cards, PayPal, and Amazon Pay.
