Following Donald Trump being found guilty of 34 felony charges for a hush money payment to an adult-film star during the 2016 election, many Republicans have taken to TV and Twitter to re-announce their unwavering fealty to their dear leader. But some are weighing their political future and are figuring out if they should continue to support Trump, despite his attempts to ban all abortion, overthrow the government, and take away protections for pre-existing conditions — or cut their losses.
“These House candidates are going immediately on Mar-A-Lago’s ‘refuse entry’ list as they panicked and neglected to immediately show loyalty to Trump,” said American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman. “It’s been nearly a day since the news broke — whatever these candidates say now is pure political calculus, not conviction.
As Trump’s campaign manager said to one candidate who called for voters to respect the jury’s decision, “you just ended your campaign,” these candidates have a lot to consider.
