Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) has backed the GOP’s budget resolution, a measure that could result in millions of Americans losing health care and groceries. This decision comes at the expense of critical support for working families, all to give a massive tax break to billionaires.
“102,500 living, breathing people relied on Miller-Meeks to have their back and protect their health insurance. She betrayed them. I’m sure the billionaires will appreciate their tax cut. Voters will not forget,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
The budget resolution would cut Medicaid up to $880 billion and SNAP up to $230 billion. Iowans who depend on Medicaid and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 102,500 (16%) of Miller-Meeks’ constituents in Iowa’s 1st District are covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and over 28,000 have used SNAP.
Before voting to slash Medicaid, Miller-Meeks previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
