This week was the primary election in Nevada, and the Republicans who made it out are… problematic to say the least.
“This group of cringey candidates that right-wing Republicans pushed through to the general election would potentially be entertaining if they weren’t supporting such a dangerous agenda,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Monica Venzke. “This lot of MAGA loyalists are running for one reason and one reason only — to do Donald Trump’s bidding of banning abortion, undermining democracy, gutting Social Security and Medicare, and giving massive tax handouts to the ultra-wealthy. They’re looking out for themselves and their supreme party leader Trump, not Nevadans.”
In NV-01, Mark Robertson:
- Commended Texas’ six-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape and incest, and noted that he hoped other states would “follow suit.”
- Believes the abortion rights should be left up to the states, since women “have a choice whether or not she engages in activities that lead to pregnancy.”
- Supported the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
- Endorsed by the rabidly anti-abortion National Right to Life in 2022.
In NV-03, Drew Johnson:
- Proudly endorsed Trump for president and stood by Trump after he was convicted of 34 felonies.
- Supported Jim Jordan’s bid to become House Speaker.
- Called the part of the Inflation Reduction Act that allows Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices “idiotic.”
- Opposes the Affordable Care Act.
- Spread climate denialism and debunked conspiracy theories that Russia was funding groups fighting for climate action in the U.S.
- Fired from his job as editorial page editor at the Chattanooga Times Free Press for violating the newspaper’s editing procedures.
In NV-04, John Lee:
- Promised to pursue the “most pro-life agenda in Nevada’s history.”
- Advocated for a “heartbeat bill.”
- Touted the fact that he had an “A” rating from Nevada Right to Life.
