Tonight, Donald Trump should be doing a victory lap, celebrating the GOP nomination, and bringing together the party to win. Instead, no matter how many times he insists that Ted Cruz’s refusal to endorse him last night was “no big deal!” the story coming out of the Republican Trump National Convention will be that the party is less united than ever.
History will remember the 2016 RNC as the year that the Humpty Trumpty finally broke the GOP into pieces and gave a voice to its most extreme, red-meat base. Even their unadulterated hate for the other party wasn’t enough — all of Reince’s men can try, but they can’t put the Republican Party back together again in time for November.
