According to a new report from Politico, the NRSC and establishment Republicans are doing everything in their power to recruit filthy rich “candidates whose bank accounts are already loaded.” After failing to compete with Democrats’ grassroots fundraising the last two cycles, the GOP believes ultra-wealthy recruits can buy themselves the Senate seats.
Via Politico:
-
In Michigan, Kevin Rinke “is considering a run for the state’s open Senate seat after investing $10 million” to lose to Tudor Dixon during the gubernatorial Republican primary. Dixon went on to lose by double-digits in November.
-
In Montana, Republicans are desperately recruiting Tim Sheehy, who “was valued at $869 million last year.”
-
In Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick recently sold his $14 million New York City compound and $6.5 million Connecticut mansion so that he can run on a Bush-era plan to privatize Social Security.
-
In Ohio, Matt Dolan announced his 2024 candidacy after spending “more than $10.5 million” last cycle only to place third in the Republican primary.
-
In West Virginia, billionaire Jim Justice is eyeing the Senate seat, after spending the last eight years in public office enriching himself and his business interests.
-
And in Wisconsin, Eric Hovde — a multimillionaire who believes Paul Ryan’s plan to gut Social Security and Medicare didn’t go far enough — “could inject an eight-figure sum into his bid against Baldwin.”
