Today, the Arizona Republic is reporting that Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is (again) officially ruling out a 2022 run for U.S. Senate — a massive loss for NRSC Chair Rick Scott, Mitch McConnell, and national Republicans, who have spent months trying to recruit him as what they hoped would be a top-tier candidate.
But Ducey is saying “no” to Rick Scott. Just like Maryland’s Larry Hogan said, “no” to Rick Scott. And just like New Hampshire’s Chris Sununu said, “no” to Rick Scott.
To be sure, we wouldn’t want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary with Rick Scott, either.
But — between these massive recruiting failures, rumors of a Senate GOP leadership challenge, and Scott’s push for a massive tax hike on millions of Americans — there’s no denying that the NRSC Chair is doing a bang up job maximizing Democrats’ chances at growing our U.S. Senate majority in 2022.
So, we salute you, Rick Scott: You’re doing great, please keep it up, and surely Mitch McConnell has no regrets about picking you to lead Senate Republicans’ 2022 campaign effort.
More seriously: If you’re just now tuning into Arizona’s GOP U.S. Senate primary and looking for coverage ideas on the other five (5!) GOP candidates already running, please send us a note at [email protected], and we’ll be happy to pitch you or otherwise talk through race and primary dynamics.
