Tonight, Rep. Scott Perry, best known as a four-time national abortion ban co-sponsor, as well as for his involvement in trying to overthrow the 2020 election, is set to take the debate stage.
“Rep. Scott Perry is a direct threat to reproductive freedoms and our democracy as a whole — he has forfeited the right to represent Pennsylvanians,” said American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman. “The voters of Pennsylvania have watched Rep. Scott Perry turn into one of the most extreme swamp creatures imaginable, and they’re tired of his lackluster representation in Congress.”
Here’s what you need to know about Rep. Scott Perry:
- Perry has defined himself as “strongly pro-life” and celebrated being endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee.
- Perry celebrated the overturning of Roe because it “ensured that states can now make decisions regarding abortion.”
- Contradictory to that, Perry co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act four times (2023, 2021, 2019, 2018).
- Perry was integral to Trump’s efforts to overthrow the 2020 election, with former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson claiming he was “central” to the planning process and asked for a pardon following the attack on the Capitol.
- A judge ordered that Perry had to turn over his phone records for the January 6th probe due to his involvement.
- Perry said he ran for Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act in its entirety, then voted to repeal it.
- Perry voted against bipartisan legislation that helps veterans who were exposed to toxic substances.
