If the goal of the Republican National Convention was to hide the right-wing extremism stoked by Donald Trump, convention organizers failed miserably.
From the announcement of JD Vance as his running mate, to Trump’s rambling, grievance-filled acceptance speech, extremism was front and center throughout the convention.
We recapped all the right-wing lunacy for you on Medium:
- Before one speech was given on stage in Milwaukee, the extremist tone for the week was set after news broke that Project 2025 authors, the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, signed on as official sponsors of the convention.
- Many of the 84 fake electors across seven states have been charged with crimes, but at the RNC they were welcomed with open arms as convention delegates. Criminally indicted fake electors Nancy Cottle and state Sens. Jake Hoffman and Anthony Kern made headlines after they were forced to ask a judge for permission to travel to Milwaukee as convention delegates.
- RNC organizers could not have been thinking about national unity when they tapped an enabler of sexual abuse to deliver the opening prayer on night one of the convention.
- After hearing from the problematic priest, many convention goers attended the “Jamboree at the RNC,” the official night one after party of the RNC, featuring the notoriously racist and antisemitic DJ duo, Milk N Cooks. Rolling Stone uncovered social media posts from the pair pushing unconfirmed conspiracy theories, making antisemitic comments, and defending racists.
- Former presidential candidate Nikki Haley was brought in as a show of party unity, but even Haley warned uniting the party under Trump wasn’t the same thing as expanding the party and uniting the country. RNC speakers didn’t heed Haley’s warning and instead focused on emphasizing an unwavering loyalty to Trumpism.
- You’d think Trump would be frustrated by RNC organizers injecting so many extreme elements into the RNC program throughout the week, but to the contrary, Trump said “everybody hit a home run,” which should tell you all you need to know about the current state of the Republican Party.
