Every Republican on stage is proposing an extreme tax plan that lowers taxes for the wealthiest one percent. The radical tax plans don’t only come at the cost of middle and working class families — they also add trillions to the deficit:
- Tax experts estimate that Ted Cruz’s flat tax would add between $3.7 trillion to $16.2 trillion to the deficit over a decade.
- Jeb Bush’s proposal would add $8.1 trillion to the deficit.
- Marco Rubio’s tax plan would add at least $6.8 trillion to the deficit.
- Donald Trump’s cuts would add up to $10 trillion lost in government revenue over ten years.
- Ben Carson’s tithing flat tax proposal would leave the government with a $1.1 trillion hole.
- John Kasich’s plan to balance the budget over 8 years comes at the cost of important safety net programs like Social Security.
Republicans love to complain about the country’s growing debt, but they won’t put their tax plans where their mouth is. Instead, they continue to push extreme plans that overwhelmingly benefit billionaires and millionaires like the Koch brothers at the cost of average Americans.
