Yesterday the New York attorney general revealed that Rex Tillerson aka Wayne Tracker used this pseudonym to send emails about climate change while CEO at ExxonMobil. Tillerson may have used this email to misrepresent the company’s “understanding of climate change to investors and the public.” Today, the State Department would not comment on these reports. In response, American Bridge Spokesperson Sabrina Singh released the following statement:
“Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has a new problem facing him as he hides from reporters on a trip to Asia this week – his emails. If Tillerson misled investors and the public on ExxonMobil’s understanding of climate change, Tillerson must immediately come clean and explain his actions. As our nation’s chief diplomat, Tillerson is obligated to represent the United States honestly – without conflicts of interest – and to put the American people first. But as a Big Oil CEO and now as Trump’s chief diplomat Tillerson’s putting more energy into hiding information from the American people than doing his job.”
