RFK Jr. never launched a presidential campaign to win it all. His candidacy was always a long con to serve himself and his MAGA patrons. Today, RFK Jr.’s monthslong campaign grift came to its inevitable conclusion, siding with Donald Trump and a brand of right-wing extremism RFK Jr. embraced from day one of his spoiler campaign for president.
In response, American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby released the following statement:
“RFK Jr. lied to voters, donors, and even his own running mate for months. He was never in the race for president to beat Donald Trump. RFK Jr. was recruited to run for president by Steven Bannon. RFK Jr.’s largest donor is Timothy Mellon, who is still pumping tens of millions of dollars into Trump’s operation. RFK Jr. agrees with Trump’s extreme views on restricting abortion rights, preventing common-sense gun safety laws, pardoning violent insurrectionists, and pushing harmful vaccination conspiracies.
“Today’s endorsement is the inescapable fate for a campaign with no path to victory, no fundraising base, and a desire to stop Kamala Harris from winning in November.
“It’s unclear what Trump promised to RFK Jr. in order to secure his endorsement, but Trump told him in a phone last month that there would be something ‘big’ in it for him. Apart from likely breaking the law, this quid pro quo makes RFK Jr. dangerously close to a position of authority involving Americans’ health care decisions.
“His disgraceful attacks on public health officials and his lies about vaccines have put lives at risk in the past, and he should be nowhere close to a presidential administration, let alone in a Cabinet position.
“Luckily, Donald Trump is not a man of his word – he told RFK Jr. whatever he could to get him out of the race because he is terrified of Kamala Harris.
“For decades, the Kennedy name has been synonymous with service, selflessness, and a committed duty to improving life for Americans. Today, RFK Jr. sold out that storied legacy to a convicted criminal who undermines our values and is committed to upending American democracy as we know it.”
