Yesterday, Republican U.S. Senators Rick Scott (FL) and Tim Scott (SC) chose partisanship AGAIN over the safety of their citizens in voting against millions in needed disaster relief – even as Hurricane Ian barrelled towards landfall in their states.
As the storm hit the Florida coast and left millions without power, the Scotts were two of just 25 Republican senators who voted against advancing a short-term government funding package that included millions in aid for states facing natural disasters.
American Bridge spokesperson Drew Godinich released the following statement:
“Hurricane Ian is poised to be the largest natural disaster in Florida’s history – and even as thousands of Americans are struggling to cope with the scale of this disaster, the people of Florida and South Carolina cannot rely on their senators to act in their best interest over posturing for presidential runs in 2024.”
