In a move that underscores the status quo of extreme and anti-choice Republican leadership, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Florida Attorney General Ashely Moody to fill Marco Rubio’s Senate seat. Moody is already facing opposition, which sets the stage for a messy Republican primary.
“By appointing Ashley Moody to the Senate, DeSantis is giving Floridians more of the same extremist MAGA leadership,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “Moody’s disturbing track record of election denial combined with his history of trying to restrict abortion rights make her just as toxic as Marco Rubio and a terrible choice for Florida.”
Ashley Moody has a long record of opposing abortion rights and even sought to keep an abortion rights amendment off of Florida’s ballot. She went further and supported threatening TV stations who played ads advocating for abortion rights. Moody also sought to get the Affordable Care Act declared unconstitutional, which would hurt over 4.6 million Floridians.
Moody also abused her elected position and took a lead role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election and joined the lawsuit seeking to invalidate the results. Moody supported book bans and is in the pocket of Big Oil — while ignoring climate change.
