Republican Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-01) has backed the GOP’s budget resolution, a measure that could result in millions of Americans losing access to health care and groceries. This decision comes at the expense of support for working families, all to give a massive tax break to billionaires.
“Schweikert voted to take away health care and food from tens of thousands of people in his district, as prices continue to rise. He voted to use that money to fund tax cuts for billionaires. Voters won’t forget this betrayal,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
The budget resolution would massively cut Medicaid up to $880 billion and SNAP up to $230 billion. Arizonans who depend on Medicaid and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 71,700 (11%) of Schweikert’s constituents in Arizona’s 1st District are covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and over 18,700 people in the district have used SNAP.
Before voting to slash Medicaid, Schweikert previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
