Senator Richard Burr is set to repeal Medicaid expansion and defund Planned Parenthood, taking away healthcare coverage from millions of Americans and denying women in North Carolina and across the nation access to important health procedures such as cancer screenings.
Here’s what Richard Burr wants to prevent:
- Access to preventive health care for thousands of North Carolina women: Drastic cuts to women’s health care are already straining access to quality medical screenings and preventive services through Planned Parenthood, and Burr wants to make the problem worse.
- Roughly 500,000 North Carolinians would receive coverage under Medicaid expansion.
- Medicaid expansion would create 43,000 new jobs in North Carolina by 2020.
“Richard Burr’s vote is another shameful attack against Planned Parenthood and aims to end health care services for millions of Americans.” said American Bridge 21st Century President Jessica Mackler. “Burr is continuing the war on women and targeting low-income children and families’ access to crucial health care in North Carolina and across the country. North Carolina deserves better than a rubber stamp for the Koch brothers.”
