Yesterday in Nassau County, Trump vice presidential hopeful, Elise Stefanik told supporters, “The nation is watching what happens here,” in reference to the special election to replace disgraced former Congressman George Santos. Tonight, the nation watched Rep. Stefanik and House Republicans fail to deliver a much needed win in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.
The fourth-highest ranking member of the Republican House majority could not help deliver a crucial victory in her home state, further winnowing an already-slim majority that ousted its former Speaker and struggles to pass meaningful legislation.
The special election in New York’s 3rd Congressional District is seen as a bellwether for the 2024 general election by experts who pointed to the district’s unique political landscape as an indicator for electorate preferences heading into November.
“Rep. Stefanik is doing whatever it takes to show Donald Trump she’d make a great running mate, even promising to execute a coup for him if he lost a presidential election. She must be terrified that her stock is falling in the Trump veepstakes after failing to deliver a win in her home state tonight. We hear that Trump only likes winners, so she may want to get comfortable in New York. We don’t see the possibility of her riding on Air Force 2 anytime soon,” said American Bridge 21st Century Presidential Campaigns Communications Director, Brandon Weathersby.
