Spinless senators Joni Ernst, John Cornyn and Thom Tillis all voted to confirm alleged sex criminal Pete Hegseth to be the next Secretary of Defense. Right before the vote took place, new allegations came out from Hegseth’s ex-sister-in-law claiming he was abusive to his second wife. GOP senators turned a blind eye to these serious allegations and voted to confirm him anyways.
“This vote proves Republican senators up for reelection are more terrified of Donald Trump and a primary challenge than doing their job of thoroughly vetting obviously unqualified — if not actively dangerous — cabinet picks,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “It’s especially clear Ernst’s initial concerns were just political theatre and she was always going to vote to confirm him. Voters cannot trust her.”
Ernst first gave the thumbs up to Hegseth after his disastrous Armed Services Committee hearing where he proved how unqualified he is for the job. Before the committee vote, Ernst met with Hegseth twice to address her so-called ‘concerns,’ but she abandoned her alleged values of supporting women in the military to instead support Hegseth through the confirmation hearing.
