Spineless senators Joni Ernst, Susan Collins, John Cornyn and Thom Tillis all voted to confirm Pam Bondi, who helped Trump with his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election and abused her power as Florida’s attorney general to help Trump avoid prosecution.
“This vote proves Republican senators up for reelection are more terrified of Donald Trump and a primary challenge than doing their job of thoroughly vetting obviously unqualified — if not actively dangerous — cabinet picks,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “Instead of standing by our democracy, these cowardly senators helped give Trump an Attorney General who will help him enact his Project 2025 agenda that’s already being implemented and having devastating consequences.”
Before confirmation, John Cornyn, who is up for reelection in 2026, met with Bondi and praised her as “an excellent nomination.” Thom Tillis, also up for reelection, pledged his support for Bondi and said he will be “leading the charge” to get her confirmed.
