ICYMI: AB21 Co-Chair Governor Steve Bullock on Julie Mason Mornings

Apr 27, 2022

Today, Gov. Bullock joined Sirius XM’s Julie Mason Mornings to discuss President Biden’s economic agenda, the upcoming midterm elections, and efforts to support rural America. Throughout the interview, Governor Bullock emphasized American Bridge’s work to connect with voters using trusted local messengers in our advertising.

Governor Bullock on American Bridge’s paid media program:

  • “We did a lot in 2020 and targeted about – I think it’s three million Obama/Trump voters. Folks that we had lost mostly in exurban areas. And what we did is actually have local messengers talking about why this election’s important. We found that most of them actually get their news, not from national news, but by local news. We found that the most trusted messengers are local individuals. And even Trump’s own pollster said it was those areas where, you know, as James Carville would say: ‘you don’t have to win, you have to lose less badly.’”

Other Key Governor Bullock quotes from the interview:

  • “It’s really about turning around and saying, how do we make sure that come November, just as they did in 2020, that folks know what the Democrats are doing and that they’re working to improve their lives?”
  • “What we’re working on toward the midterm elections is in some key states saying – you know who’s delivering for you? It’s the Democrats.”
  • “We have to underscore that Republicans aren’t fighting to make your life better.”
