Donald Trump promised he’d end inflation “starting on day one,” but three months into his presidency, Americans fear inflation will skyrocket and the economy will weaken thanks to his chaotic economic policies.
A University of Michigan survey released today shows the 1-year inflation outlook is at its highest since 1981, as Americans across all political parties reported higher inflation expectations.
In addition, the mood on Main Street is growing darker as Americans’ confidence in the economy is down 30% since December. It’s the second month in a row that the decline in confidence was “pervasive and unanimous across age, income, education, geographic region, and political affiliation.”
The new survey comes days after the Yale Budget Lab’s analysis found that Trump’s tariff tax would cost the average American household $4,400 this year alone.
“American families can see that the Trump administration doesn’t have a real economic plan or strategy to help them, just chaos and knee-jerk decisions that are shuttering local businesses and tanking retirement accounts. The Trump economy is circling the drain because of the breathtaking stupidity and incompetence of this administration,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “The writing is on the wall, and it’s flashing in neon. Everyone understands that American households will pay thousands of dollars for Trump’s tariff tax as prices skyrocket.”
