Following recent reports that Senate Republicans are “again facing the risk of problematic candidates,” looming “intraparty fights,” and “primary wars,” new articles this week in key swing states across the country highlight that the GOP is struggling with “rudderless” state parties and bracing for a “battle royale.”
-
In Arizona, “Democrats scored a big recruitment win” thanks to failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake who “will reportedly launch her Senate campaign.” The list of potential GOP candidates in Arizona — including Q-Anon conspiracy theorist Mark Lamb — is “sparking angst among Republicans” who believe these candidates will “fumble” and “bungle” any hopes of retaking the Senate seat.
-
In Michigan, the “rudderless” state party has created “uncertainty and disarray” amongst Senate hopefuls, leading many inside the GOP to say “it’s a nice fantasy to think Republicans could fill a Michigan Senate seat.” Meanwhile, the NRSC is recruiting John Tuttle, a Wall Street carpetbagger who’s still an active voter in New York and has gone to Davos 15 times.
-
In Nevada, election conspiracy theorist Jim Marchant announced his 2024 campaign for the U.S. Senate. In addition to being a raging homophobe and anti-abortion right extremist, the failed 2022 GOP secretary of state nominee was recently with a Q-Anon influencer and endorsed a military coup.
-
In Pennsylvania, antisemitic loser Doug Mastriano continues to attack hedge fund loser David McCormick despite neither candidate having announced their 2024 intentions. Mastriano’s likely Senate bid is already “inducing panic among GOP officials.”
-
In Ohio, a new report details that Secretary of State Frank LaRose has been belittling Donald Trump behind closed doors, telling Republicans that the former president’s endorsement “doesn’t carry the same weight it used to.” LaRose has been attacked early and often by Trump-backed candidate Bernie Moreno in a Republican primary that is quickly becoming a “lose-lose situation.”
-
In Wisconsin, Republicans cannot find a viable candidate to take on Tammy Baldwin. With no major Republican expressing interest in running, their best bet is currently extremist Tom Tiffany, who was last seen trying to loosen child labor laws.
-
And in West Virginia, Senate Republicans fear a “looming ‘proxy war’” between the Senate Leadership Fund and the Club for Growth as Jim Justice and Alex Mooney “bash” and “slam” one another.
