Moments ago, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis announced he was siding with Mitch McConnell in trying to ram through a Supreme Court nomination less than 2 months before a Presidential election. This position completely contradicts Tillis’ position in 2016, where he said the American people should be heard before filling a Supreme Court vacancy in a Presidential election year.
“Thom Tillis just surrendered whatever semblance of credibility and self-respect he had left and gave it to Mitch McConnell on a silver platter,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Zach Hudson. “In 2016 Thom Tillis repeatedly said the American people should be heard before filling a Supreme Court vacancy. Now that his party is in control of the White House, Thom Tillis is hypocritically violating the same standard he set on Supreme Court vacancies 4 years ago. Thom Tillis will say and do anything to salvage his sinking ship of a political career and North Carolina voters can’t trust a single thing he says.”
