Republican Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) has backed the GOP’s budget resolution, a measure that could result in millions of Americans losing access to health care and groceries. This decision comes at the expense of critical support for working families, all to give a massive tax break to billionaires.
“87,700 people needed Tom Barrett to step up and protect their health insurance. Instead, he sold them out in favor of lowering taxes on billionaires. Voters will not forget,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
The budget resolution would cut Medicaid up to $880 billion and SNAP up to $230 billion. Michiganders who depend on Medicaid and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 87,700 (14%) of Barrett’s constituents in Michigan’s 7th District are covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and about 30,000 people in the district have used SNAP.
