Republicans are in support of dangerous cuts to Social Security and Medicaid that will screw over their constituents in order to pay for their billionaire tax cut. Empowered by their allies in Congress like Tom Kean (NJ-07), Donald Trump and his supporters have led an aggressive effort to decimate Social Security’s workforce and infrastructure. These are cuts that target the core stability of this earned benefit American workers rely on.
Kean is on the House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee which will eventually take a lead role in crafting Republicans’ bill that will likely involve cutting Medicaid.
“Kean has enabled cuts that will gut Social Security and Medicaid. He’s responsible for this, and while his voters are struggling to afford groceries and health care, they won’t forget Kean’s betrayal,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.
New Jerseyans who depend on Social Security, Medicaid, and SNAP will suffer as a result:
- Approximately 148,359 of Kean’s constituents in New Jersey’s 7th District rely on Social Security.
- Approximately 44,000 (7%) of Kean’s constituents in New Jersey’s 7th District are on Medicaid or CHIP, and nearly 11,000 people in the district have used SNAP.
Before voting to slash Medicaid, Kean previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
