Donald Trump spent the entirety of his time in the White House pushing an anti-worker agenda that hurt American auto workers. We’re making sure they know the truth.
Today, before and during Donald Trump’s event in Detroit during the ongoing UAW strike, American Bridge 21st Century is flying a plane above the venue with the message, “TRUMP SOLD US OUT.”
The website, TrumpHatesWorkers.com, directs viewers to our Trump Research Book — which contains hundreds of pages of research on Trump’s record.
About the decision to publicly highlight Trumps’ anti-worker record from the sky, American Bridge 21st Century President Pat Dennis released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s record of letting down our nation’s union workers is long and shameful. He’s telling lies about his support for the autoworkers to distract from a well-known history of hurting wages for auto workers, appointing anti-labor zealots to powerful positions as president, supporting outsourcing jobs — both from the United States, and from Michigan specifically — and proposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Trump has been — and would continue to be — a disaster for the middle and working classes. This is only the beginning of the investments American Bridge will make in this cycle to hold Trump and his fellow MAGA Republicans accountable. Because Trump sold us out.”
As a reminder, here’s the truth about Trump’s record of selling out auto workers—
- In his new ad, Trump touts his 2017 tax plan, the same tax plan that was written to favor the richest Americans and wealthy corporations.
- Trump also claimed that he has a record of playing “hardball with China.” The truth is Trump waged a poorly-executed trade war with China during his time in office, costing Americans approximately 75,000 manufacturing jobs.
- Trump has previously stated that car companies should move production out of Michigan.
- Trump’s secretary of labor, Eugene Scalia, spent 20 years as a lawyer arguing on behalf of big corporations during labor disputes. As secretary of labor, Scalia limited unemployment benefits and made it easier for companies to get out of paying their employees family benefits.
- Two of Trump’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) appointees were management-side attorneys who fought to roll back worker protections and were “very unpopular with unions.” His NLRB lowered the standards to eliminate a union and limited who could be in a bargaining unit.
- Trump is a huge proponent of outsourcing jobs and saw an increased amount of jobs outsourced to other countries during his presidency.
- Trump was a supporter of Scott Walker’s Right to Work policies.
- Trump is desperate to slash the Social Security and Medicare benefits that union workers rely on.
