American Bridge President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s false claim that he has “nothing to do with Russia” ahead of this morning’s press conference:
“Donald Trump is grasping at straws in the wake of embarrassing news reports the Kremlin cultivated compromising blackmail material on him over the last five years and engineered his election. However, while we don’t know what additional classified details our intelligence agencies have about Trump’s close ties to Russia, plenty of public reports discredit Trump’s ridiculous defense that he has ‘nothing to do with Russia.’ It has been widely reported that Trump and his family have sought business opportunities with Russia for decades. In fact, his own son said ‘Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets.’
“There is only one way Trump can square these statements–come clean and immediately release his tax returns. If the American people are to believe the Russian government has no leverage over him, Donald Trump needs to prove it.”
