What to say about Trump and immigration? Trump’s made anti-immigrant xenophobia a prerequisite for viability in 2016’s GOP presidential primary. His inflammatory demagoguery and shameless fear-mongering propelled him to a 35% victory in New Hampshire, and has him seemingly poised to secure a similarly lopsided win in South Carolina.
Trump began his campaign by marginalizing undocumented immigrants as “rapists” and criminals who are “bringing drugs…bringing crime” — and things have only gotten worse from there. Trump’s rhetoric has led the rest of field to come to terms with their own anti-immigrant views, and secured the GOP’s legacy as the anti-immigrant Party of Trump.
