In April, American Bridge stepped outside of the conventional wisdom by asking voters to watch Donald Trump’s increasingly unhinged campaign rallies where he repeats Nazi rhetoric, proposes political retribution, and of course, repeats false conspiracies about the 2020 election.
On the debate stage last week, Vice President Kamala Harris did the same and invited Americans to watch Donald Trump’s rallies where he talks about his grievances, attacks the media, repeats outrageous conspiracy theories, and delivers zero plan for the future of the American people.
“We have to agree with Vice President Harris, not just because great minds think alike, but because in the last five months, Trump has only grown more extreme, bitter, and desperate to assume power,” said American Bridge spokesperson Brandon Weathersby. “We watch Trump every day, for hours on end. The clips you see on social media and the soundbites on the evening news just don’t do his extremism, racist rhetoric, and sexist attacks justice. When he’s not boring his audiences by repeating decades-old, stale stories, Trump’s behavior is generally incomprehensible as he makes the case for his extreme ideas. But don’t just take our word for it. Voters and reporters should watch Donald Trump’s town hall-style event in Michigan tonight and take in the circus for themselves.”
Here is a taste of some of the unhinged statements he’s made just since the Republican National Convention in July:
- Not once, not twice, but at least three times this summer, Trump called for local law enforcement to intimidate voters at the polls in November because people are “afraid of that badge.”
- Trump alluded to seeking revenge on his political rivals if he wins in November – on multiple occasions.
- Trump attacked journalist Rachel Scott multiple times during a media panel hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists. During the same panel, Trump falsely claimed he didn’t know that Kamala Harris was Black “until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black.” Trump followed up on his racist lies days later saying it was “disrespectful” for Harris to embrace both her Indian and Black backgrounds.
- Trump claimed that Kamala Harris wanted to “deposit thousands of jihadist sympathizers” in the state before telling the rally crowd “you already have enough” in an apparent reference to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
- In a bizarre press conference rant, Trump claimed his accusor E. Jean Carroll made up her claims of sexual abuse from an episode of Law & Order. He also floated the idea that a decades-old photo of him with Carroll “could have been AI-generated.”
- Trump confused Willie Brown with former California Governor Jerry Brown and lied about almost dying in a helicopter flight. When he was called out for his lies by New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman, Trump lashed out on stage calling her “Maggot Hag-er-man.”
- Trump falsely claimed that states allow schools to take students “away from their parents, perform sex change operations, and send them back home.“
- During the debate against Kamala Harris, Donald Trump promoted a racist conspiracy theory started by neo-Nazis about immigrants sealing and eating pets – and repeated the lie a few days later during his rally in Tucson, Arizona.
- Trump pushed the conspiracy theory that undocumented immigrants are being flown into the United States – and that cartels are using a phone application to sneak undocumented immigrants into the country.
- Trump pushed the unfounded conspiracy that Democrats are registering undocumented immigrants to vote in the fall.
- Trump repeated an absurd conspiracy theory that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the son of Fidel Castro.
- During a speech in Asheville, North Carolina that was supposed to be focused on the economy, Trump complained that an artist’s sketch of Vice President Kamala Harris was used as a TIME Magazine cover.
- During a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Trump launched sexist attacks against Kamala Harris and claimed he was a “much better-looking person.”
- Trump claimed that people won’t have any more meetings if Kamala Harris wins the election.
- Trump attacked Georgia State University school administrators multiple times during a rally held on campus because there were empty seats in the venue.
- Trump claimed the FBI and Department of Labor released “fraudulent” data about violent crime and job creation to hurt his campaign.
