This week, American Bridge 21st Century announced on CNN a $20 million ad launch in the key battleground states Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania — becoming the first major Democratic organization to hit the airwaves with new ads attacking Donald Trump following President Biden’s announcement that he is dropping out of the presidential race.
The ad campaign features real voters from these states and their true stories about Trump’s history of violence and crime — including January 6th. They will provide a clear contrast to the strength of Vice President Kamala Harris, a former prosecutor, who is currently running against the convicted felon.
Check out the coverage below:
- American Bridge 21st Century, one of the largest Democratic opposition research and media groups, will launch a $20 million advertising campaign on Friday, the group tells CNN, the first new series of ads launched since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and Vice President Harris assumed his campaign infrastructure.
- The advertising rollout, which will comprise television spots, digital ads, and direct mail, is geared toward working class women in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin – a key constituency in the three states the Biden-Harris campaign had said previously will be critical to their path to 270 electoral votes.
The Hill: Democratic group launches $20M ad campaign targeting Trump after Biden steps aside
- “American Bridge’s program to defeat Donald Trump has always been about three things: abortion, democracy, and freedom. Today, voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are remembering that Trump is responsible for the violent attack on our Capitol that bloodied law enforcement officers, that he’s a convicted felon, and that even his own cabinet and staff think he’s unfit to be president,” Bradley Beychok, co-founder of American Bridge 21st Century, said in a statement.
- “Trump spreads chaos and destruction everywhere he goes, and voters are fed up. They want to stop being terrified of what could possibly come next with another four years of him in charge,” he added. “The fact that he’s now running against a dedicated former attorney general and prosecutor with years of experience putting criminals like him behind bars makes these ads even more powerful.”
AP: New Ad Contrasts Trump and Harris as Felon and Prosecutor
- The group says the spots feature voters from the trio of states with the goal of contrasting Harris — a former prosecutor — with Trump, recently convicted on 34 felony charges.
- The $20 million ad buy is part of a $200 million campaign American Bridge launched in May and is aimed at swing voters in smaller media markets that are less saturated with political advertising. The group hopes to reach people who may be on the fence.
Semafor: American Bridge PAC, “Trump + January 6th.”
- American Bridge PAC, “Trump + January 6th.” The pro-Harris (previously pro-Biden) super PAC went up with this in the brief period when the nominee wasn’t certain. It’s an all-purpose attack on one of Trump’s weaknesses: His role in manifesting a mob on Jan. 6, described here by a Pennsylvania veteran who sees “nothing selfless” about how Trump operates. The closing message is “we can’t go back,” which Democrats believe will land stronger with Harris than it did under Biden.
