Today is another debate in Maine’s Second Congressional District, which means there is another chance for mediocre NASCAR driver and Republican candidate Austin Theriault to drive his extremist, party-line agenda even further to the far-right.
“Austin Theriault is an extremist through and through,” said American Bridge spokesperson Monica Venzke. “His candidacy is a threat to abortion rights for all Americans, not just Mainers. He can lie during the debate all he wants, but his record speaks for itself.”
Here’s a reminder of who Austin Theriault really is:
- He celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and he answered “yes” on a questionnaire that asked if abortion access should be restricted.
- As state representative, he voted against a bill to explicitly enshrine abortion access into the state Constitution.
- He skipped important votes about abortion access as state representative and instead posted pictures of pancakes.
- He is endorsed by Mike Johnson who led the Republican Study Committee when it proposed raising the Social Security retirement age.
- He still doesn’t have an issues page about any policies on his website.
