Tonight, out-of-state millionaire and GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy will debate Senator Jon Tester. Since the launch of his campaign, Sheehy has been marred by deceit surrounding his purported ‘success story,’ a lawsuit from former employees, and skipping out on paying taxes on his ranch. He’s also been under fire for lying about how he got a gunshot wound and plagiarizing large portions of his own book.
“Tonight, Montanas will see right through Tim Sheehy’s web of lies while he attempts to defend his out-of-touch positions on abortion rights and public lands,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado. “Sheehy has lied about his upbringing and his gunshot wound, plagiarized his book, and tried to hide his association with an extremist group that wanted to privatize public lands. What will he lie about next?”
Here’s what you need to know about fake rancher Tim Sheehy:
- Sheehy made racist remarks offending Native Americans and has repeatedly refused to apologize.
- Sheehy failed to disclose his position on a right wing think tank that wanted to privatize public lands and charge higher fees at national parks.
- Sheehy wore a shirt with the logo of the right wing think tank and got caught trying to erase the logo from the ad.
- Sheehy said public lands should be “turned over to” the states.
- Sheehy’s Little Belt Cattle Company blocked access to public lands for Montanans and removed a section of their website that boasted their proximity to public lands.
- Sheehy called himself “proudly pro-life” and supports a national abortion ban.
- Sheehy refused to support federal protections for IVF.
- Sheehy opposes federal country of origin labeling for beef that Montana farmers support.
- Sheehy said that he wanted to privatize the U.S. health care system, which would upend the Affordable Care Act.
- Repealing the Affordable Care Act would rid 47,000 Montanans of coverage and gut protections for 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions.
- Sheehy planned to begin by “cleaving off” the Department of Education, followed by the Department of Homeland Security.
- Sheehy and his brother allegedly defrauded as many as seven former Bridger Aerospace employees of millions.
