Tonight, VA-10 GOP nominee Mike Clancy will be taking the stage — here’s what you need to know about him:
- Clancy is an anti-abortion extremist who:
- Supported the Dobbs decision, which opened the door to Republicans across the country, including in Virginia, trying to push extreme abortion bans.
- Changed his website to say “he does not support federal action on abortion,” while scrubbing that he identified as a “steadfast advocate for life” and supported “pro-life medical practices.”
- Attended the March for Life where he declared he believed in the “sanctity and dignity of human life at all stages.”
- He’s a big fan of President Trump and his policies. Clancy:
- Supported renewing the Trump tax handouts to giant corporations and billionaires, despite the fact that extending them would add $4.6 trillion to the deficit.
- Defended Trump’s dangerous and bogus 2020 election conspiracy theories, claiming, in part, that the now-felon was just “exercising his right to question the result of the election.”
- Clancy signed the “parent pledge” for the extremist group Moms for Liberty.
- He only had $28,000 cash on hand at the end of June after the primary election.
“Mike Clancy is a cookie-cutter MAGA GOP candidate who will do Trump’s bidding and work to further restrict women’s reproductive freedoms,” said American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Virginians are ready to turn the page on the Trump days and that means defeating candidates like Mike Clancy.”
