The first debate in Ohio’s First Congressional District, hosted by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and AJC Cincinnati, is tonight.
Republican candidate Orlando Sonza has a history of embracing antisemitism, like when he touted an endorsement from a very public antisemite and Holocaust denier.
“Orlando Sonza has some real gall showing up to a debate like this after his abhorrent disrespect towards the Jewish community. He owes them more than just an apology — he should drop out,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Monica Venzke. “Ohioans deserve so much better than someone who would embrace horrible antisemitic conspiracy theorists with open arms, who would support a federal abortion ban, and who would decimate public schools.”
That’s not the only reason he’s wrong for Ohio. He also:
- Said that the United States should “be a place where there’s no abortion.”
- Indicated support for a federal abortion ban in his 2022 state Senate run.
- Strongly opposed the state abortion access ballot initiative, saying, “It would be destructive not just for those that want to start a family, but those that even want to maintain the culture and the value of life that we have here in Ohio.”
- Suggested that marriage equality shouldn’t be the law of the land.
- Said he’d eliminate the Department of Education.
