AZ-01 Rep. David Schweikert penned an op-ed today touting his support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be the next Health and Human Services secretary. Schweikert pinned his support on the cost obesity has on the American budget. Schweikert did not once acknowledge RFK Jr.’s absurd and unfounded beliefs about vaccines, which, if RFK, Jr. got his way, would lead to the spread, and not containment, of deadly diseases. This could be costly to both the American people and the American economy, in the short and long term.
“If Rep. David Schweikert cared about the American people and economy, he would recognize the profound danger and cost RFK Jr. could impose as HHS Secretary,” said American Bridge spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Schweikert’s support for a completely unqualified looney-tune for HHS Secretary, who would undoubtedly make America less healthy, is a direct threat to the people he represents in Arizona.”
Schweikert has long supported legislation that would directly address Valley Fever, a disease that is found in desert areas like Arizona. Based on RFK Jr’s. history and rhetoric, it is more than likely he could undermine progress on research to better combat this disease through vaccines or other treatments.
